What certification must a K-12 interpreter hold in Texas?
We hold our interpreters to high standards, and every interpreter we assign is vetted and qualified for the setting. Most hold BEI or RID certification, and for K-12 classroom work we also place interpreters with a strong EIPA rating, the credential Texas recognizes for school settings. We match the right qualification to each assignment and verify it before placement.
What is the difference between EIPA, BEI, and RID?
Are colleges and universities required to provide ASL interpreters?
Yes. Under Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act and the ADA, postsecondary institutions must provide qualified interpreters and other auxiliary aids so students with disabilities have equal access.
Do you work with our campus disability services office?
Yes. We partner directly with disability services, accessibility, and DRS or SSD offices to schedule and coordinate accommodations, and we bill the institution rather than the student.
Do you provide interpreters for internships, practicums, and student teaching?
Yes. The ADA and Section 504 cover required learning that happens off campus, including internships, clinical rotations, student teaching, fieldwork, and labs, and we staff those placements alongside classroom coverage. Do you provide two interpreters for long classes or events?
Yes. Lectures and events that run longer than about an hour or two typically need a team of two interpreters who rotate every 15 to 20 minutes to maintain accuracy and prevent fatigue. We recommend the right staffing for each assignment.
Do we have to provide an interpreter for a Deaf parent?
Yes. Courts have held that schools must provide interpreters for Deaf parents at parent-teacher conferences and school events, not only for Deaf students.
How does interpreting get written into an IEP?
The IEP team identifies interpreting as an accommodation and specifies the student’s language needs. The interpreter then matches that language mode in the classroom. We coordinate directly with your team to support what the IEP requires.
Can you provide a consistent interpreter for the whole semester or school year?
Yes, and we recommend it. Continuity with the same interpreter team builds trust and measurably improves comprehension, so we prioritize consistent staffing for ongoing assignments.
Do you cover events beyond the classroom?
Yes. We interpret assemblies, field trips, athletics, campus events, ceremonies, and graduations, in addition to daily instruction.
Can you support online and hybrid classes?
Yes. We provide video remote interpreting for online courses, hybrid classrooms, and virtual meetings.
Do you serve schools outside of Texas?
Yes. We are based in Austin and Central Texas, but we coordinate educational ASL interpreters nationwide, both onsite and through video remote interpreting. We also provide CART services across the country.
