Faith Centered Interpreting

Worship is meant to be shared

Church and religious ASL interpreting is the difference between watching a service and worshiping in it. For a Deaf member of your congregation, that comes down to a skilled church sign language interpreter who carries not just the words, but the meaning, the spirit, and the heart of the message.

3 Bridges provides professional religious ASL interpreters who understand that interpreting in a faith setting is its own craft. Our interpreters bring scripture and doctrine to life in American Sign Language, so every member feels seen, included, and fully part of the community.

Sunday Worship

Every sermon, hymn, and prayer, fully accessible

A skilled religious interpreter carries the message from the pulpit in American Sign Language, so your Deaf members follow the sermon, the scripture, and the prayers in real time and worship right alongside the congregation.

Inclusion & Belonging

Why accessible communication matters in healthcare

It is a statement of values

Most churches and religious organizations are not legally required to provide interpreters. That makes the choice to do so a clear statement of values. With an estimated 11 million Deaf and hard of hearing people in the United States and very few congregations offering ASL access, the church that provides it stands apart and tells its Deaf members they belong here.

The impact is real

Deaf members describe the difference as moving from observing a service to participating in it, from feeling informed to feeling connected. Accessible worship is not a logistics line item. It is ministry.

A note on the law: while day-to-day worship is generally exempt from the ADA, public events your organization opens to the broader community, such as concerts, conferences, or outreach events, can carry accessibility expectations. We are glad to help with those as well.

Onsite & Livestream Options

Religious interpreting services we provide

We provide religious interpreting onsite, through video remote interpreting, and through ASL video production, all shaped to the rhythms of your congregation.

Weekly worship and services

Consistent interpreters for Sunday services, weekly worship, and regular gatherings. We prioritize keeping the same interpreter with your congregation, because familiarity with your rhythms and community makes the interpreting noticeably better.

Special services and life events

ASL interpreters for weddings, funerals, baptisms, holiday and seasonal services, revivals, and ceremonies, so the most meaningful moments are accessible to everyone present.

Ministry and small groups

Interpreters for Bible studies, youth groups, retreats, and pastoral counseling. Sensitive conversations are held in strict confidence under the professional code our interpreters follow.

Live video and livestream interpreting

Video remote interpreting connects your congregation with a qualified religious interpreter by secure video, even when none is available nearby, shown on screen for in-person worship or as a picture-in-picture window for your livestream and recorded services.

CART captioning for worship

Some members are hard of hearing and prefer reading to signed interpreting. Our CART services caption the service in real time on a screen, so the sermon, prayers, and announcements come through word for word.

Filmed ASL translation of religious content

Beyond live services, our ASL video production team films and produces polished ASL translations of your religious content: sermons, scripture passages, devotionals, study materials, hymns, and announcements, so Deaf members can engage with your message anytime, on your website, app, or social channels.

Worship in Song

Music that everyone can take part in

Worship is more than words. Our interpreters convey the music, the lyrics, and the spirit of the songs, so Deaf members are part of the praise, not just watching from the side.

Is our church legally required to provide an ASL interpreter?

Generally no. Religious organizations are largely exempt from the ADA for their worship services. Many congregations choose to provide interpreters anyway, as a reflection of their values and a way to welcome Deaf members fully.

Religious interpreting is a specialized skill that goes well beyond knowing signs. It requires accuracy with scripture and doctrine and the ability to convey meaning, not just words. A professional interpreter gives your Deaf members the same depth of experience the rest of the congregation receives.

We recommend it and aim to keep the same interpreter with your congregation whenever they are available, though we cannot promise the exact same person every single week. Consistency lets an interpreter learn your rhythms, language, and community, which improves accuracy and comfort for your Deaf members, so we prioritize it wherever we can.

We match interpreters with experience in religious settings and the relevant tradition, including familiarity with source-language terms from scripture where it matters, and we ask for the message and materials in advance so the interpreter can prepare. Preparation is what makes faith interpreting accurate.
